Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) comes out of retirement in this made-for-television movie mystery to defend a comedian with a flair for the dramatic (Joe Penny), who barges onto the set of a talk show and shoots the outrageous host (Alan Thicke) with a gun he claims is full of blanks. The only problem is, the bullets were real and the host is dead. Reeling from the killing, the defendant turns to Perry to prove that someone tampered with his gun.
