Summary

Dave and Barbara Whiteman (Richard Dreyfuss and Bette Midler) seem to have it made: He's a successful businessman, and she's a happy homemaker. Together they have a son, a daughter and a Beverly Hills manse to die for. At least, that's what a wayward bum (Nick Nolte) thinks when he tries to drown himself in their pool. Director Paul Mazursky peels away the hypocritical layers obscuring this American Dream.
