Summary

Seeking companionship and meaning in his life, lonely postal worker Graham Holt (William Hurt) applies to adopt troubled 10-year-old James (Chris Cleary Miles). Graham gradually makes strides in gaining James's confidence, a situation that changes drastically when the boy's real father is released from prison.
