Summary

Through her marriage to Laurence (Michael Gough), penniless but ambitious governess Blanche (Valerie Hobson) rises to become the mistress of a vast estate. But with prodding from her headstrong lover, Philip (Stewart Granger), Blanche imprudently agrees to help murder her husband. Full of passion, tragedy and intrigue, this gothic melodrama, based on a novel by Joseph Shearing, features striking Technicolor cinematography.
